To whom it may concern:
I am intensely saddened by the "retirement"
of Dale Jenkins. As a student at St. John’s
for 12 years, he was a part of my daily life. He
was not only a presence in the halls of the junior
high and high school, but a familiar face at sports
events, school dances, and fundraisers. Although
I might not have agreed with everything decided
by the school administrators, I knew that behind
the office door of the upper school headmaster sat
an intelligent, dignified, loving man; a man who
gave me respect and who undoubtedly deserved mine
in return. Having grown up the daughter of a St.
John’s teacher, I have also witnessed the
leadership qualities of Dr. Jenkins. He is not only
a principal, but a confidante, a colleague, and
a friend to teachers and staff.
Dr. Jenkins’ departure has obviously distressed
the entire community who holds him in such high
regard; on a more personal note, it has deeply affected
my family and me. Although I graduated from St.
John’s almost 10 years ago, the school has
remained a prominent part of my life. The thought
of returning home for a visit and not stopping in
to Dr. J’s office and seeing him smile at
my latest endeavor is one that I have yet to accept.
Dr. Jenkins represents the values a school strives
to uphold. More than that, he has touched the life
of each child who passed his way. The children of
St. John’s were his children. School days
are fleeting; knowing that a truly great man is
always on your side is a lasting legacy.
Sincerely,
Megan Hull
